Our PREP community is very saddened by the loss of our long-time colleague and Executive Director, Dr. Betsy M. Webb

Dr. Webb also served as Libra Professor of Educational Leadership at the University of Maine.   Webb was a passionate, committed educator who believed all students are capable of learning at high levels and the key to their success is acceleration of learning. Prior to joining PREP as Executive Director and the educational leadership faculty in the College of Education and Human Development, she was superintendent of the Bangor School Department for 13 years, and a public K-12 educator in Maine for a total of 38 years, including 20 years in central office leadership, five years as a principal, nine years as a director of educational technologies, and four years as a teacher. Dr. Webb was named the 2013 Maine Superintendent of the Year and in 2012 was the Maine School Superintendents’ Association Outstanding Leadership Award Winner. She was a finalist for the AASA’s National Women Leadership Award in 2019. Dr. Webb served on numerous boards at the local, state and national level, including the Maine School Superintendents’ Association Executive Board (chair of the Ethics Committee, member of the Finance Committee and the Action and Policy Committee); Penquis Superintendents’ Committee; the Southern Penobscot Regional Program for Children with Exceptionalities; and Penobscot River Educational Partnership; the Penquis Regional Administrator Support System (chair); the Community Health Leadership Board; the Husson University Board of Trustees; the State of Maine Technical Advisory Committee; and Maine’s Dean of Education Advisory Board.
